Make a Game Plan

Map out every task — from booking movers and packing to switching utilities and forwarding mail.

  • Assign deadlines and stick to them.
  • Share tasks with family members to lighten the workload.

Declutter as You Pack

Ask: “Do I really need this in my new home?” Less clutter = less to pack = less to pay.

Use Proper Packing Supplies

Don’t skimp on materials.

  • Use strong, similar-sized boxes sourced from one supplier
  • Clear packing tape (not duct or masking!)
  • Specialty boxes for TVs, dishes, and fragile items

Arrange Child and Pet Care

Keep kids and pets safe and out of the way by having a friend, sitter, or family member care for them during the move.

Start Packing Early

Pack room by room, starting with off-season or non-essentials. Think: holiday décor, winter clothes, extra kitchenware, media collections. Leave out daily essentials until the final days.

Don’t Overpack Drawers

Clothes in dressers? Fine. But skip packing heavy or fragile items in drawers — no books, jewelry, or liquids. We strongly recommend leaving cloth items only in drawers.

“Live Lite” Before Moving Day

Act like you’re on vacation for a few days. Keep only what you need accessible. The rest should be packed and ready.

Know Your New Layout

Measure rooms and furniture to plan where it goes before moving in. Have a layout in mind — but stay flexible. Things might shift!

Pack Your Hardware Right

Disassembled furniture? Put all screws, bolts, and small parts in labeled zip-top bags — then pack them all in one clearly marked box for easy setup later.
